Starting an ADDA Professional Council is a very easy process. Just gather together a minimum group of 10 drafters and share the information you download from this site. The First Step involves wanting to be recognized by one or more persons in a particular geographic area, to indicate that they are indeed part of a significant professional function in industry. This recognition carries with it an obligation to develop oneself professionally by seeking out and communicating with peers and developing and/or contributing to appropriate professional development programs. The next step is to contact interested persons in the area and select a date and location for a meeting to discuss the need for forming a council. If this group feels the need to develop a local council, then set a date for the organizationl meeting, prepare an agenda for the meeting, plan for a guest speaker, and prepare announcements for mailing. At this time, persons who are invited do not have to be ADDA members, but they should be interested in becoming members after the meeting. Mail, email, or fax meeting announcements at least two weeks before the meeting. If at all possible, follow up all announcements with phone calls the day before the meeting.
During your organizational meeting discuss the benifits of beloging to a professional organziation, the opportunities you will have to network on a regular basis, how each member will have the opportunity to promote the profession and how the council can help the community. |
